こんにちは、高知初のシェアハウス＆ゲストハウス ルルル スタッフのジョーです！

昨日は 2月14日、バレンタインデー！
ルルルでは、なんと スタッフのゆりが住人たちにバレンタインのプレゼントを用意🎂✨

住人の ショーン（ドイツ出身・ヘルパー）、リー（台湾出身・留学生）、ジミー（カナダ出身・シェアハウス住人） に 手作りのチョコレートケーキをプレゼント！

🎉 みんな大喜び！ 🎉
ショーンは満面の笑みでケーキを受け取り、リーは驚きながらも嬉しそうにリアクション！
ジミーも「日本のバレンタインはユニークだね！」と感心していました。

写真の通り、ルルルのリビングでは笑顔がいっぱい！
このサプライズで、世界のバレンタイン文化についての会話も盛り上がりました💬✨

世界のバレンタイン文化をシェア！

🇩🇪 ドイツのバレンタイン

ドイツでは 「恋人同士のための日」 という考えが強く、友達同士や職場でのチョコ交換はありません。

特徴

男性が女性に赤いバラを贈る🌹
手紙やぬいぐるみ、ワインをプレゼントすることも🍷
「義理チョコ」の文化はない
恋人が愛を確かめ合う日 であり、告白の日ではない

ショーンも「ドイツでは男性がプレゼントをするんだよ！」と語っていました😊

🇹🇼 台湾のバレンタイン

台湾では 「男性→女性へプレゼント」 が基本！
日本とは逆の文化で、女性がプレゼントをもらう側になります💝

特徴

男性が女性に花束やチョコ、ジュエリーを贈る💍
ホワイトデーは存在せず、お返しは不要
バレンタインは年に2回！（2月14日 & 旧暦の七夕）
デートスポットはどこも満員

リーも「台湾では男がプレゼントするんだよ！」と驚いていました🎁✨

🇨🇦 カナダのバレンタイン

カナダではバレンタインは 男女ともにプレゼントを贈り合う のが一般的！
カップルはもちろん、友達や家族間でもカードやチョコを贈ることがあります。

特徴

男性も女性もプレゼントを用意する
子どもたちは学校で友達同士にカードを交換する文化もあり
カップルはディナーやデートを楽しむのが定番

ジミーも「日本のバレンタインは女性がチョコを渡すんだね！」と驚いていました😊

日本のバレンタインは特別？

実は、日本の 「女性が男性にチョコを贈る文化」 は 日本独自 のもの！
これは 1950年代にチョコレート会社のマーケティング から生まれたんです🍫

世界では 「男女でプレゼントを贈り合う」 のが一般的なので、日本の文化はかなりユニーク！

最近は
✔ 「逆チョコ」（男性→女性へ）
✔ 「友チョコ」（友達同士）
✔ 「自分チョコ」（自分へのご褒美）
など、いろんな形のバレンタインが広がっています🎁

LuLuLu’s Valentine’s Day! Sharing Global Valentine’s Traditions 🎁

Hello! This is Joe, staff at LuLuLu, Kochi’s first share house & guesthouse!

Yesterday was February 14th – Valentine’s Day!
At LuLuLu, our staff member Yuri surprised the residents with a homemade Valentine’s cake! 🎂✨

Shaun (Germany – Helper), Lee (Taiwan – Exchange Student), and Jimmy (Canada – Share House Resident) were all thrilled!

🎉 Everyone was smiling! 🎉
Shaun happily received the cake, Lee was surprised and excited, and Jimmy said, "Japanese Valentine's Day is so unique!"

As you can see in the photos, the LuLuLu living room was full of happiness!
This surprise sparked an interesting conversation about how Valentine’s Day is celebrated around the world!

How Valentine’s Day Is Celebrated Around the World

🇩🇪 Valentine’s Day in Germany

In Germany, Valentine’s Day is seen as a day for couples rather than a time to exchange chocolates among friends or colleagues.

Traditions:

Men give red roses 🌹 to their loved ones
Cards, plush toys, and wine are also common gifts 🍷
No "obligation chocolates" (giri choco) like in Japan
It’s not a day for confessing love, but rather for celebrating relationships

Shaun was surprised and said, "In Germany, men usually give flowers!"

🇹🇼 Valentine’s Day in Taiwan

In Taiwan, men give gifts to women—the opposite of Japan!

Traditions:

Men give chocolates, flowers, or jewelry to their girlfriends/wives 💍
No White Day (Men do not receive gifts in return)
Taiwan celebrates two Valentine’s Days (February 14 & the Chinese Qixi Festival in July)
Night markets and date spots get extremely crowded

Lee laughed and said, "In Taiwan, guys are the ones who buy the gifts!"

🇨🇦 Valentine’s Day in Canada

In Canada, Valentine’s Day is a mutual celebration, where both men and women exchange gifts.
Unlike Japan, it's not just about giving chocolates—people express their love in various ways.

Traditions:

Couples exchange gifts such as chocolates, flowers, or handwritten cards
Kids at school exchange Valentine’s cards with classmates
Many couples go out for a romantic dinner or special date

Jimmy was surprised and said, "In Canada, we both give gifts to each other!"

Japan’s Unique Valentine’s Day Culture

The tradition of women giving chocolates to men is unique to Japan!
It started in the 1950s as a marketing strategy by chocolate companies 🍫

Most countries have the tradition of men giving gifts to women, making Japan’s way of celebrating quite special!

Recently, other Valentine’s Day trends have emerged:
✔ “Reverse Chocolate” (Men give chocolates to women)
✔ “Friend Chocolate” (For friends)
✔ “Self-Chocolate” (For personal enjoyment)

Valentine’s Surprise at LuLuLu!

To celebrate, Yuri baked a homemade Valentine’s cake for everyone at LuLuLu! 🎂💕
We shared the cake while exchanging stories about how Valentine’s Day is celebrated in different countries.

📸 As you can see in the photos, the LuLuLu living room was full of laughter and smiles!
It was a fantastic cultural exchange experience, only possible in a global guesthouse like LuLuLu!
