夏の高知といえば、やっぱり「よさこい祭り」なしでは語れません。

2025年の今年も、8月9日（金）から12日（月・祝）までの4日間、街じゅうが踊りと音楽に包まれる「よさこい祭り」が開催されます！

今回は、よさこい初心者の方でも楽しめるように、祭りの見どころ、スケジュール、楽しみ方などをたっぷりご紹介します。

そもそも、よさこい祭りって何？

よさこい祭りは、1954年に始まった高知市発祥の踊りのお祭りです。
「鳴子（なるこ）」という木製の楽器を持って踊るのがルールで、現代ではヒップホップやロック、ラテン音楽なども取り入れた、自由で創造的な踊り祭りになっています。

チームごとにオリジナルの衣装・振り付け・音楽を準備し、街中の演舞場を回りながら披露していくスタイル。中には毎年、演出がすごすぎて“舞台演劇か!?”ってツッコミたくなるチームもあります（笑）。

2025年のスケジュールはこうなる！

今年の開催日程は以下のとおり：

8月10日（土）	本祭 1日目（市内の演舞場にて演舞）
8月11日（日）	本祭 2日目（審査も本格化）
8月12日（月・祝）	後夜祭＆受賞チームの演舞披露

一番の見どころはやっぱり10日・11日の本祭。この2日間で約190チーム・18,000人以上が参加予定！
中央公園や帯屋町、追手筋などのメイン演舞場では、朝から晩まで熱気ムンムンの演舞が繰り広げられます！

よさこいビギナーにおすすめの楽しみ方

① とにかく「中央公園」と「追手筋」へ行こう！

この2ヶ所はメイン会場。パフォーマンスの質も高く、初見でも感動間違いなし。
特に夜の「追手筋演舞場」は照明と音響がばっちりで、まるでライブフェスのような雰囲気です！

② よさこい屋台でグルメも満喫！

高知といえばカツオのたたき、田舎寿司、しらす丼…。
でも、よさこい期間は屋台グルメもかなりアツいんです！
市内中心部では屋台がずらっと並び、ビール片手に踊りを観るのが夏の最高の贅沢。

③ チームの個性に注目してみよう！

よさこいの魅力は、各チームの“表現力”にあり！
・お祭りというよりアート感満載の「ほにや」
・学生パワー全開の「帯屋町筋ジュニア隊」
・毎年テーマを変える劇団風チーム
など、同じよさこいでもまったく雰囲気が違うんです。

ちょっとした豆知識

• 「よさこい」とは？
  土佐弁で「夜さ来い（夜も来い）」＝「いつでも来ていいよ」という意味。
  人を歓迎する、高知らしい温かさが詰まってます。
• 雨天決行です！
  台風が来ない限り、雨でも踊ります！雨に濡れても笑顔で踊る姿…それもまたグッときますよ。

Hello! When it comes to summer in Kochi, you can't talk about it without mentioning the Yosakoi Festival.

This year, from August 9 (Fri) to 12 (Mon/holiday), the city will be filled with dance and music for four days during the Yosakoi Festival!

This time, we will introduce the highlights, schedule, and ways to enjoy the festival so that even Yosakoi beginners can have fun.

Let's make sure to cover all the key points for enjoying Kochi's summer to the fullest!

What exactly is the Yosakoi Festival?

The Yosakoi Festival is a dance festival that originated in Kochi City in 1954.

The rule is to dance while holding a wooden instrument called a “naruko,” and today it has evolved into a free and creative dance festival that incorporates hip-hop, rock, and Latin music.

Each team prepares their own original costumes, choreography, and music, and performs at various venues throughout the city. Some teams have such impressive performances that you might wonder if they're actually stage plays! (laughs)

Here's the schedule for 2025!

This year's event dates are as follows:

August 9 (Fri) Pre-festival + Kochi City Summer Fireworks Festival (approx. 4,000 fireworks)

August 10 (Sat) Main festival Day 1 (performances at performance venues throughout the city)

August 11 (Sun) Main festival Day 2 (judging begins in earnest)

August 12 (Mon/holiday) Post-festival & award-winning teams' performances

The highlight is definitely the main festival on the 10th and 11th. Approximately 190 teams and over 18,000 people are expected to participate over these two days!

At the main performance venues such as Central Park, Obiya-machi, and Ote-suji, performances will be held from morning to night in a lively atmosphere!

Recommended ways to enjoy Yosakoi for beginners

① Go to Central Park and Ote-suji!

These two locations are the main venues. The quality of the performances is high, and even first-time viewers are sure to be moved.

Especially at night, the Ote-dori Performance Area has perfect lighting and sound, creating an atmosphere like a live music festival!

② Enjoy gourmet food at the Yosakoi food stalls!

When it comes to Kochi, you think of katsuobushi (shaved bonito), inaka sushi (country-style sushi), and shirasu don (rice bowl with baby sardines)...

But during the Yosakoi period, the food stalls are also quite popular!

In the city center, food stalls line the streets, and enjoying the dances with a beer in hand is the ultimate summer luxury.

③ Pay attention to the uniqueness of each team!

The charm of Yosakoi lies in the “expressive power” of each team!

• “Honyaya,” which feels more like art than a festival

• “Obiya-machi-dori Junior Team,” full of student energy

• A theater-style team that changes its theme every year

Even though they're all Yosakoi, the atmosphere is completely different.

What is “Yosakoi”?

In Tosa dialect, “Yosakoi” means “Come at night (come anytime).”

It embodies the warm hospitality of Kochi.

Unless there's a typhoon, we dance even in the rain! The sight of dancers smiling despite getting wet... that's truly heartwarming.
