旅の思い出を肌に刻む！お遍路中のイタリア人が選んだタトゥー

旅の記念にタトゥーを刻む – イタリア人お遍路さんの想い

こんにちは！高知のシェアハウス＆ゲストハウス LuLuLu スタッフのジョーです。
先日、LuLuLuに宿泊していたイタリア人のお遍路さんが、「高知でタトゥーを入れた！」とニコニコしながら教えてくれました。

えっ、高知でタトゥー！？
日本の旅の思い出といえば、お土産とか写真とかが定番だけど、まさかのタトゥーを選ぶとは…さすがイタリア人、スケールが違う！

彼が腕に刻んだのは、円の上部が空いているデザイン。
なぜこのデザインにしたのか？そこには深い意味があるようです。

この未完成の円に込めた想いとは？

「カッコいいから！」って理由かと思いきや、ちゃんと意味があるらしい。

🌀 成長の象徴
「人生は常に変化し続け、成長が終わることはない」— つまり、まだまだ旅の途中！
未完成の円は、まさにお遍路の道のりとリンクしてるのかも。

🌀 禅の「円相（Enso）」
日本の禅では、円相（えんそう） という円を描く書があるんだけど、これは悟りや無限を象徴するもの。
特に未完成の円は、「修行の継続」「開かれた心」を意味するそう。なるほど、お遍路との相性もバッチリ！

🌀 オープンマインド（開かれた心）
円が完全じゃないことで、「何事も決めつけず、柔軟な思考を持つ」っていう意味も。
お遍路中の出会いや経験を大事にしてる彼らしい選択。

🌀 新たな道を選ぶ自由
円が閉じていないことで、「輪廻や固定概念からの解放」っていう意味もあるとか。
「未来は自分で決めるんだ！」っていう、まさに旅人らしい考え方。

旅の思い出、タトゥーにしちゃう？

「この旅を一生忘れないために、タトゥーを入れたんだ！」と誇らしげな彼。
普通の旅行者は写真を撮るけど、彼は体に刻んじゃう。これぞ旅の極み！？

でも、もし日本で温泉に入るなら、タトゥーOKの施設を探さないとね（笑）

Marking a Journey with a Tattoo – An Italian Pilgrim’s Story

Hello! I’m Joe, a staff member at LuLuLu, a share house & guesthouse in Kochi.
The other day, an Italian pilgrim staying at LuLuLu excitedly told me,
"I got a tattoo in Kochi!"

Wait, a tattoo… in Kochi?!
Most travelers bring back souvenirs or photos, but this guy decided to make his journey a permanent part of himself. Talk about dedication!

The tattoo he chose? A circle with an open top.
At first, I thought it was just a cool design, but it turns out there’s a much deeper meaning behind it.

What’s the Meaning Behind the Unfinished Circle?

I figured he just liked the design, but nope—there’s real thought behind it!

🌀 Symbol of Growth
"Life is always changing, and growth never stops."
An unfinished circle reflects this idea perfectly—just like a pilgrim’s journey, it’s never truly complete.

🌀 Zen "Enso" Circle
In Zen Buddhism, there's a concept called "Enso", a hand-drawn circle that represents enlightenment and infinity.
An open Enso symbolizes ongoing practice and an open mind—a perfect match for the pilgrimage!

🌀 Openness & Flexibility
A broken circle can also mean staying open-minded and adaptable, which fits a traveler’s spirit perfectly.

🌀 Freedom to Choose One’s Path
Rather than being trapped in cycles, an open circle symbolizes breaking free from limitations and choosing one’s own direction in life.
Sounds like the perfect tattoo for an adventurous soul!

Turning Memories into Ink

"I wanted to make sure I never forget this journey," he told me with a big smile.
Most people take photos—he took it one step further and made it a part of his body!

One small piece of advice though… if he ever visits a Japanese onsen, he’d better find one that allows tattoos! 😆
