【坂本龍馬の新婚旅行ゆかりの地】高千穂峰と霧島神宮を巡ってきました！

今回は鹿児島・霧島エリアへ旅してきました！
高千穂峰と霧島神宮といえば…そう、坂本龍馬の新婚旅行で訪れた場所なんです。

実はこの旅こそ、日本初の新婚旅行とも言われているんですよ。

🌸 坂本龍馬の新婚旅行とは？

1866年、龍馬と妻・お龍は龍馬の負傷療養もかねて旅に出ました。
高知を出発 → 京都・大阪 → 下関 → 鹿児島へ。

当時、男女ふたりきりの旅はとても珍しい時代。
「夫婦で旅をする」ことが日本初の新婚旅行として語り継がれています。

鹿児島市内には、この旅を記念して作られた
坂本龍馬・お龍夫妻の銅像もあります。
仲良く旅するふたりの姿が微笑ましい！

⛩ 霧島神宮

霧島温泉滞在中に龍馬夫妻が訪れた霧島神宮。
主祭神は天孫降臨のニニギノミコト。
朱塗りの美しい社殿は当時もすでに建っていたそうです。

旅の途中、無事を祈願したとも伝えられています。
歴史好きの私には胸熱の場所でした✨。

⛰高千穂峰と“天の逆鉾”

そして今回の旅のハイライト、高千穂峰登山！
山頂には伝説の「天の逆鉾」があり、龍馬はこれを実際に引き抜いたという逸話が残っています。

「ここまで来たらやってみよう！」という龍馬らしい豪快さが伝わるエピソードですね。

実際に登ってみて驚いたのが、火山灰と火山岩がめちゃくちゃ滑ること！
今回はけっこう軽装で行ってしまったんですが、思った以上に足元が悪くてヒヤヒヤ。
滑って転びそうになった場面も何度かありました（汗）。

龍馬夫妻も着物＋草履でここを登ったかと思うと…本当にすごい。
登山される方は滑りにくい靴＆防寒対策、必須ですよ！

🗺 高知とのつながり

今回訪れた霧島・高千穂峰は、まさに高知のヒーロー龍馬の足跡をたどれる旅。

Walk in the footsteps of Ryoma Sakamoto: Visiting Takachihomine and Kirishima Shrine!

I recently visited the Kirishima area in Kagoshima, known for its connections to Ryoma Sakamoto’s honeymoon trip — often called Japan’s first honeymoon!

🌸 About Ryoma’s honeymoon

In 1866, Ryoma and his wife Oryo traveled together — something very rare at the time — from Kochi to Kyoto, Osaka, Shimonoseki, and Kagoshima.

Their journey became known as Japan’s first honeymoon.

In Kagoshima City, there’s even a statue of Ryoma and Oryo, commemorating their journey — such a heartwarming sight of the couple standing side by side!

⛩ Kirishima Shrine

While staying in the Kirishima hot spring area, they visited Kirishima Shrine, dedicated to Ninigi-no-Mikoto, the deity of Japan’s origin myths.

It’s said that Ryoma prayed for a safe journey here.

⛰ Takachihomine & The Heavenly Spear

The highlight of the trip: climbing Takachihomine!

At the summit stands the Ame-no-sakahoko (Heavenly Reverse Spear), which Ryoma supposedly pulled out — a story that perfectly fits his bold character.

The view from the top was breathtaking — you can see all the way across the Kirishima region.

Visiting these places truly connected me to the life of Kochi’s hero, Ryoma Sakamoto.

After visiting these sites, I recommend heading back to Kochi to complete the Ryoma pilgrimage at the Ryoma Memorial Museum and the famous statue at Katsurahama.
