もうすぐ「土用の丑の日」ですね！
子どもの頃、「土曜日にうなぎを食べる日」だと思い込んでいたのは、私だけじゃないはず…笑

でも実は、「土用の丑の日」とは季節の節目にあたる特別な日のこと。
そしてなんと、2025年は2回もあるんです！

「土用の丑の日」ってなに？

✅ 土用とは？

「土用（どよう）」は、季節の変わり目を表す期間（立春・立夏・立秋・立冬の前、約18日間）です。
つまり「夏の土用」は、立秋前の約18日間のこと！

✅ 丑の日とは？

十二支の「丑（うし）」が割り当てられた日のこと。
12日ごとに巡ってくるため、土用期間に2回丑の日がある年もあります。

✅ なぜうなぎを食べるの？

江戸時代、うなぎが夏に売れず困ったお店が、蘭学者・平賀源内の助言で「丑の日にうなぎを食べよう！」と宣伝したのが始まりとされています。

• 二の丑：7月31日（木）

What is “Doyo no Ushi no Hi”? (2025 has TWO days!)

Hi! I’m Jo, staff member at Kochi’s first share house & guesthouse, LuLuLu.
Every summer in Japan, “Doyo no Ushi no Hi” becomes a hot topic—especially when eel (unagi) is involved!
And in 2025, it happens twice!

✅ What does “Doyo no Ushi no Hi” mean?

• “Doyo”: The transitional period before each new season (approx. 18 days before the start of spring, summer, fall, and winter).
• “Ushi no Hi”: A day marked with the zodiac sign “Ushi (Ox),” which comes every 12 days.
  So, “Doyo no Ushi no Hi” refers to an Ox day during the summer Doyo period.

✅ When is it in 2025?

• First Day (“Ichi no Ushi”): Saturday, July 19
• Second Day (“Ni no Ushi”): Thursday, July 31

This year, we get two chances to celebrate!

✅ Why eat eel?

In the Edo period, eel didn’t sell well in summer.
A scholar named Hiraga Gennai advised a shop owner to promote eating eel on “Ushi no Hi” as a way to build stamina.
The campaign worked—and the tradition stuck!
