三菱を支えた旭町の偉人・木村久寿弥太と「木村会館」

リニューアルから2年。図書館併設で地域に根ざす文化の拠点へ

先日、ルルルの近所・旭町から生まれた「男爵いも」の父・川田龍吉男爵をご紹介しましたが、今回はもう一人の旭の偉人をご紹介します。

それが、**木村久寿弥太（きむらくすやた）**さん。
明治・大正・昭和初期にかけて三菱グループの中枢を担い、日本の近代工業の発展に大きく貢献した実業家です。

久寿弥太氏は、旧土佐藩士の家系に生まれた高知市旭出身。
三菱鉱業や三菱製鉄の会長を歴任し、日本工業倶楽部創設や日本商工会議所の顧問などを務め、まさに近代日本の経済界を支えた存在でした。

昭和12年（1937年）、自邸（旭3丁目）とともに現金15,000円を高知市に寄付。
今の価値にしておよそ1,200万円以上とも言われるこの寄付によって創立されたのが、地域文化の拠点「木村会館」です。

そしてその木村会館が2023年6月1日、全面リニューアルオープンしてから、今年で約2年。
明るく広々とした空間に生まれ変わり、図書館も併設され、地域住民の憩いと学びの場として再び注目を集めています。

実はそのリニューアル記念のセレモニーに、筆者ジョーも**「旭っ子記者クラブ」サポーター**として参加していました。
当日は、子どもたちが会場を盛り上げていたのがとても印象的で、今でも鮮明に覚えています。

Kusuya Kimura: The Mitsubishi Executive from Asahi — 2 Years Since the Renewal of Kimura Hall

After introducing Ryokichi Kawada, the “father of Danshaku potatoes,” I’d like to share about another local figure from Kochi’s Asahi area — Kusuya Kimura.

Kimura was a key executive in Mitsubishi during Japan’s modernization.
Born in Asahi, Kochi, he served as president of Mitsubishi Mining and Mitsubishi Steel and contributed to Japan’s industrial and economic development.

In 1937, Kimura donated his residence and 15,000 yen (equivalent to over 12 million yen today) to Kochi City, leading to the founding of Kimura Hall.

On June 1, 2023, Kimura Hall reopened after a major renovation — and now, 2 years later, it continues to thrive as a community library and cultural hub.

I had the honor of attending the opening ceremony as a supporter of the Asahikko Kids Reporters Club. It was a joyful day full of energy from the local children.
